I passed my test (automatic) in 2005 but haven't really driven much since then for various reasons. I now need to be able to drive but was nervous about getting out on the road after so long. Having decided an intensive course was the right way to go I booked Mark through Academy Driving School. The process of booking couldn't have been easier and Pete Brason was great, really helpful and reassuring. Mark Large was my instructor and he was a superb choice.
I can honestly say I don't think I could have found a better teacher . He judged my abilities and the best way to encourage me very quickly and pushed me out of my comfort zone so skilfully that I was handling traffic and manoeuvres in a way that I really never thought that I would ever be able to do, including parallel parking which had been my main stumbling block. Since I got back from the course last week I have been out on my own and driving solo thanks to Marks skill and encouragement. A completely 5 star experience.
A wait of over 10 years had proved that I was not good at organising anything to do with getting a driving licence. I therefore found the assistance from Pete to be exactly what I needed - once I had given some dates that I could make, the course, accommodation and test were all booked for me - all I had to do was get myself to the train to Kings Lynn! Pete was also extremely helpful in tailoring the course around my work commitments so that I could take the test at a date some time after my initial visit for the lessons.
Mark was my instructor and I couldn't have hoped for a better teacher. Driving an almost stall-proof diesel Citroën, I was taken through the various test routes of Kings Lynn where Mark accurately identified all of my faults and poor driver habits and patiently explained the proper driving techniques so that errors were ironed out quickly. I also liked how good Mark was at spotting the parts of test routes where I struggled, making me repeat them until I had mastered them. Mark is a really decent guy who it was a pleasure to learn from, and who had a lot to teach given his substantial knowledge (including great tips on exactly what testers would look for). What's more, he genuinely cares about the result for his students, doing all he can to prepare you for test day (and I found it funny that he seemed even more nervous than me when the tester was announcing the result). I'm pleased to say that, with Mark's invaluable assistance, I passed first time and I would recommend him to anyone!
One other point worth mentioning is the great accommodation provided by Mark and his lovely wife at their family home. A self-contained unit forming part of their garage, it had all the facilities one could need during the course. The fabulous big breakfast was a perfect set up for a day of driving and the local shop and take-away/restaurant were more than enough for my evening needs.
All in all an excellent experience which I recommend to anyone. Thanks again Mark and Pete!
Clear and concise tuition, calm and patience instructor. I would not hesitate in recommending Academy to anyone wanting to learn to drive.
Pete Brason is a top instructor and a top bloke. It was worth making the journey to kings Lynn as I passed my driving test with only 1 minor. I would definitely recommend academy driving school.
I first tried learning to drive some 18/19 years ago but having failed 4 times assumed driving wasn't for me. In fact the whole experience was so awful I'd have a panic attack every time someone talked about getting behind the wheel.
However, personal circumstances recently dictated that I had to learn to drive and fast. I just about managed to get through the theory test without passing out but pretty much lost all feeling from the forehead down and had to practically be carried out the test centre
The only way I could think I would ever get through the test was to just go for it and this is where Academy Driving comes in. I booked the 25 hour intensive residential (I figured if I couldn't crack it in that time then I was a lost cause).
They were brilliant! Patient, understanding & a really, really high standard of tuition. I really enjoyed my sessions and the whole learning experience was fun. I can't claim that my test nerves improved any, in fact I had to phone my best friend and get her to talk me down from climbing out the toilet window and running away just before the test. I'm so glad I stayed because I passed!
Even if you're thinking of hourly lessons with a local instructor please consider Academy Driving and a residential course if necessary. I really found just going for it to be loads better than an hour here and there. You won't regret it.
I'm so impressed I'll be going back to do my advanced driving with them.

After finishing University and struggling to pass my driving test a few years ago I wanted to finally get passed. I came across the Academy site and read all the brilliant reviews which had been left. After receiving a prompt response from Pete I booked a week long course. After meeting at the station I immediately found myself at ease, Pete is really easy to get along with. I chose the 20 hour course, which was well structured and organised. This meant I was able to practice the things I was less confident with. Towards the end of the week, Pete did some mock tests with me, which were great and put me in the right frame of mind to take the test. There was time to go through anything I was unsure of and I was never afraid to ask any questions I was unsure of.
As test day arrived I was a little nervous and although I didn't pass first time, I was determined to come back and pass next time. Pete booked me a test for three weeks later and after a two hour lesson, I took my test and passed. Only one minor.
Booking with Academy was one of the best decisions I've made. The clear communication and preparation on their behalf was second to none and Pete was a great instructor. After struggling to pass a number of years ago, it is great to have finally passed. I was picked up promptly from the station each morning and dropped off at the cafe each lunchtime. If anyone is interested in passing their driving test, I recommend booking with Academy, you will not regret it.
I would like to submit the following as my review of my experience at your driving school.
All I can say about my experience with the driving school is 3 excellent.
1. Excellent contact to arrange the course, it was completely hassle free.
2. Excellent accommodation at The Beaches, especially the full English breakfasts which set up for the day!
3. I have never known a driving instructor as good as Peter! With his fantastic tuition I pass and would recommend him to anyone who wants to get the job done. Keep it up Pete, your an absolute gem!!
A lot of research went into finding the right intensive driving school and I felt once I’d read through the Academy website there was a good chance I’d found the perfect match. I contacted the school and Peter rang me back the same day and I knew the moment we spoke on the phone that we’d get on. I’d found the right place!
I booked the 25 hour course over 5 days with the test on Friday afternoon (Friday the 13th no less!). I was nervous to begin with having the bulk of my experience in an automatic car and was taking the manual test. Peter had e-mailed me a few days before I was due to arrive to let me know that he’d be my instructor for the week and that I’d be driving his new Yaris.
I have to admit to being very nervous on the journey up to Kings Lynn, suddenly my test was only days away and I hadn’t even met the person I would rely on to get me to test standard. The minute Peter picked me up from the station he put me at ease. We drove to a quiet industrial estate and I made a few shaky drives around the block, my first time behind a manual in 8 months. After the assessment of my driving skills, he talked through my existing skills and areas that I’d need to work on over the week in such a way that I felt that everything he said was achievable.
One of the first things I noticed about King's Lynn was how friendly the drivers were, no tooting, shouting or gesturing at learner drivers (I stalled several times so I say this with confidence!). The combination of friendly drivers and a supportive instructor would prove the winning combination for me. I drove all around King’s Lynn and although it was a bit of a shock to my system to be driving at speed and it was excellent experience (I’m from London, where you’re lucky if you can get above 30 mph).
I had been previously been taught the manoeuvres with varying degrees of success and confidence (turning in the road was ok, parallel parking was shaky and the reverse around the corner was dire). Peter was quick to point out what I was doing right and suggest ways to improve. I found myself constantly saying “why didn’t someone tell me that before, it makes so much sense”. He completely changed my reverse around the corner by teaching me a new method and as it happened that was the manoeuvre I got on test. 2 of the most daunting aspects of driving for me were the roundabout and the slip road. The first because I’d never quite got the hang of the correct lane position for the exits and the second because I had no confidence in joining traffic at speed. We went through roundabouts of all sizes and I got in plenty of practice using all exits and my confidence began to build. We also practiced a lot on a slip road Peter talked me through the method (the decision point, when to hang back, when to speed up etc.).
I have to say a word about the mock tests, they are invaluable. Peter and I really got on so I didn’t think I’d be nervous with him doing my 1st mock test. Nervous didn’t even cover it, there was something about the marking sheet and pen coming out that made all my calm disappear. I failed the 1st mock (and the 2nd and 3rd as it happened) but I learnt something each time. The most important thing I learned is that I was so hyper aware of being graded I would second guess myself in an effort to make the right decision and not be given a minor (or worse). This was completely counter-productive and ended up giving me a worse score.
All of that out of my system prior to test day, I was able to ignore the fact that I was being assessed and focus on my driving. I passed first time.
If you are reading this and wondering if Academy is the place for you, you might remember that I few weeks ago I was reading the testimonials and wondering the same thing. Now I’m a fully licence driver and the world’s (or at least Britain’s roads) my oyster. Posted : 16 May 2011
I don`t usually write reviews so I will keep it short. First of all thanks to Mark that showed me most of roads of Kings Lynn and reacted calmly to my nervous attempts of 3 point turn.
Big thanks to Amanda (examiner) for giving clear instructions and being positive.
Overall I enjoyed driving in Kings Lynn and was pleased with the fact that there are hardly any cyclists. Intensive course was a little tiring but I had plenty of time to rest at bed and breakfast. With so much driving in short period of time I learned to feel the car and controls, I also started to predict actions and see mistakes of drivers in front of me. This give confidence which is a main thing that calms your nerves and is a success to passing exam.

Let me tell you about the best decision I've ever made! I read these same reviews & thought 'these people really mean this!' so, in spite of being a lifelong driving phobic, I phoned. The person I spoke to was kind, laid back & had a great sense of humour. I know I'd hit the jackpot! I booked immediately & Pete even moved my course dates when family illness prevented me from attending. Later, and hugely intrepid after a long drive from Southampton with a 3 year old in tow, he met me on the first evening. Huge smile, gleaming brand new red Yaris & said' would you like the keys?' You know, I didn't panic & for me this is massive.
I had 30 hours with' Bring Some Money' 7 years ago which blew my nerves completely. Pete is so unique; he gauges everyone' s ability individually & paces the course to suit their needs. I took 40 hours which he tried to talk me out of, but I relished my time feeling my confidence grow & the transformation to feeling as though driving was natural. He constantly bolsters your confidence and even if you have a meltdown, he is as cool as a cucumber actually relax! He is right, it's a learning experience. The car is an absolute dream to drive too.
The days are challenging; you don't notice time passing, but are exhausted at the end of it. He gives you a folder to go through at night which really helps solidify new concepts. The day is typically 9:30/10:00am start to 4:00pm with 40mins for lunch. It gives you a chance to experience all kinds of traffic situations, dual carriageway, town & residential.
Test day came & I thought last weekend I would head for the hills, but I'd been out with Pete that morning & doing some things beautifully & others disastrously (my view). He'd even encouraged me to go into the test centre the day before so I knew what it would look like. 2:32pm yesterday came so quickly & although my legs turned to jelly, I slow walked to the car with the nicest examiner I've ever had. He really tried to calm me down & when he said Congrats, you've passed, with 2 minors, I felt as though I'd won the lottery. Pete' s face was a picture, he'd seen me reverse bay park all week flawlessly thanks to his tips & today I had to shuffle all over the place! He becomes your best friend & really feels for you. His face burst into the sunniest smile; 'I told you so' and he had.
The examiner then said 'You are really a very good driver, you need more confidence in yourself.' Pete chuckled, 'That's what I've been telling her all week!' He had & with his persuasion & skill, I got to test day & actually stayed because I knew I'd learnt something. Pete will tell you 'people are really friendly here!' He's right, they are. They smile at you in shops & let you stall without flashing lights & zooming up your derrière! It really makes a difference, you can relax & actually listen to what's being taught.
I also had a pathological phobia of hill starts, so King's Lynn really suited me. The area is also gorgeous; there was so much for my family to do. They had a fabulous holiday in the sunshine; we hired a house, so many of us came here. Pete says some candidates want to move here & I know how they feel. As I gaze out over the lavender strewn fields in glorious sunshine, glancing down at my brand new Pass Certificate, I feel as though I conquered my biggest fears. This is all because I had the tremendous good fortune to read other reviews here & take the plunge.
Simon I also met & seemed as devoted as his colleague. But for me, as you can probably guess, Pete is a God. His gentle guidance & constant good humoured reassurance have changed my life. He has guided me to prove to myself that I can do it. More even than a test certificate, this knowledge is something I can borrow when I'm faced with another impossible challenge. Of course, I can also zoom away like a demon now, thanks to his help. With all my heart, thank you Mr Blueskies, next time I need a miracle, I'll be back!
I had Pete for my intensive course. I had chosen the 30 hour pack over 6 days.
The experience as a whole was fantastic, Pete (the instructor) was very good at explaining what everything was clearly and I never was lost or confused. He was also very friendly and any questions i had he had no trouble answering them.
The accommodation (The Beeches Guest House)was fantastic and the people who run the place couldn't do enough for you; they were very friendly and always smiled. Breakfast was brilliant as you had so much choice and was all nicely cooked, well presented and tasted lovely.
When taking a mock test, I had another instructor called Simon who was also fantastic and friendly and was very helpful and easy to approach.
The course overall is excellent value for money and they helped me pass and attain my license first time. I would definitely recommend this driving school to anyone who is thinking of taking an intensive course. I travelled from Southend to Kings Lynn because of the reviews of the driving school received prior to me going were all fantastic and i will continue this trend by recommending it to anyone.
Before spending 3 years at university I had been taking lessons but failed to get along with my tutor and had consequently taken little interest in driving and lost complete confidence. I found Academy and Peter through a friends recommendation and couldn't give more praise. Peters time and tuition was worth every penny and to add to it I enjoyed it! words I never expected to say!!!
I spent a week with Pete and was able to drive and perfect some of my techniques, despite my difficulties and problems at the start Peter was exceptionally patient and helpful offering tips and knowledge that has been hugely beneficial since I have passed. With the help of Pete and Academy Intensive I passed my driving test first time with only one minor for a silly mistake. This is undoubtedly something I would not have been able to say without Peters help!
I will recommend him thousands of times and would urge anyone who has no experience or no experience to contact him! He is a fabulous teacher and without him and his wonderful ability to put me at ease I would not have passed and be driving my little car!!! Thanks so much to Academy and Pete - couldn't have done it without u!!!
I couldn't have been better prepared for my test - and passed first time - thanks to Pete and his team.
Although I was nervous at first - and at 34 not sure how quickly I would learn and how coordinated I could be - Pete made the lessons easy and explained the techniques and skills clearly and patiently. Everything was thoroughly planned and prepared and driving quickly became much more enjoyable than I had expected.
I would thoroughly recommend the intensive course and achieved in a week something that had taken me more than ten years to get around to. Thank you!
I learnt to drive 10 years ago, but never quite got past my test, so I recently decided to knock the nail on the head and get my driving test out the way.
After doing my research online, this place just felt right. It was in Kings Lynn, a nice train journey out of London and where the grass is greener.
I was picked up at the station by my instructor Mark R Large, in his bright yellow VW Beetle (he runs his own driving school too). A lovely car to drive, and the only car I have ever driven that hasn't given me a sore back after an hour or two (he told me it had "sports seats" as an optional extra).
Did five hours of solid driving for three days with a test on the fourth day (18 hours total). We stopped for a coffee break half way through every day, and driving never felt like it was tiring or exhausting, or at least not until after we finished for the day.
I ended up staying in a lovely little garage studio annex, at the same address as my instructor, out in the middle of the country, and a full English breakfast every morning courtesy of his lovely wife.
The first day behind the wheel, the first in ten years, it was just like riding a bike, and it mostly all came back to me straight away. I was better than I remember being, but my mind was racing and I was a little overcautious and stopping for everybody. Day two was an easy day, mostly manoeuvres. Day three we did a couple of mock tests, he was harsh on marking me, but for good reason, and we quickly drilled out all the bits where I had the potential to fail.
All in all I was very happy with Mark's style and method of teaching, even though I did have a habit of driving better round roundabouts when he wasn't constantly asking questions. He got me up to speed on my driving skills, did an excellent refresh on all the individual aspects that could come up the test, and very sharp on pulling me up on anything that could potentially get me to fail my test.
I would highly recommend the format of a residential driving school, the instructor gets to know you and tailor your lessons to your upcoming test.
By day four, the day of the test, I had just spent the entire week driving, and it was just like second nature. Answer a few silly questions, drive safely and confidently for 40 minutes, never put yourself or others in danger, don't make any silly mistakes and they won't have any excuse to fail you. (and my instructor adds, don't drive too slow).
I was even faced with my worst traffic nightmare, a slip-road onto a fast road, and this time there was no room to merge in, thus requiring a last minute stop which I had never done before. My handling was a little messy, but I kept the car safe at all times, and thus it only flagged a minor.
At the end of my test, I didn't feel nervous, I had kept the car safe at all times, and my examiner just said "You've passed" without any drama and with only 5 minors to boot.
I got what I came down here to do, I am now legally allowed to drive. Result!
My driving licence arrived through the post yesterday – A full pink licence, not the green one I had for nearly 2 years!! I had been learning to drive for nearly 18 months and my lessons were really irregular due to my busy lifestyle. I could see it dragging on for a long time and once I found out I was pregnant I decided that once and for all I needed to pass. I was very dubious of intensive driving courses, seeing many horror stories on the web but they seemed my only hope…
After hours of searching I decided on Academy driving school. It had fab reviews, was based in a nice quiet town and was an environment in which I could 100% focus on driving. My instructor was the absolutely lovely Pete and I couldn’t have asked for a nicer guy to spend an intense 25 hours with. He was endlessly patient and explained everything in really simple clear terms using lots of examples to solidify the message.
After some horrendous mock tests with Pete and another with Simon as you may have guessed I passed, first time!! But, even if I hadn’t passed I would highly recommend this course as I learned so much and really polished up my driving to the extent that just a few days after I passed I drove 150 miles on motorways and country roads. I would recommend this course to those who had already driven a bit as I think when you learn the basics having lots of time for things to sink in is important. But once you can control a car intensive driving can polish you up for your test.
Thank you Pete and I promise I will drive a little bit faster :)
Was well worth the time and money, past first time and peter gave me all the confidence I needed.
After struggling with learning to drive for nearly three years, I decided that an intensive course would be worth a try. I chose Academy because of the excellent online reviews and its proximity to my university.
It was definitely the right one! My instructor was Pete, who was excellent. Despite me having had quite a break from driving, he was very patient and encouraging, but also very effective at teaching for the driving test - we ran through all possible aspects of the test, the test routes, and I had some mock tests as well. All very useful. The accommodation was very good, and the whole experience was definitely the best way to learn to drive. I am very satisfied with my pass, and would recommend Academy Driving School to anyone looking for an intensive driving course.
After failing my first test, I was truly in the dumps. However, I picked myself up, parted ways with my suspiciously alcoholic driving instructor (he threw up in a mock test after a heavy night out!) and rocked over to Academy driving school. Had the privilege of being taught by both Ken and Pete, who were both exceedingly professional and bubbly characters. Accommodation was second to none and remarkable value for money. I could not recommend this driving school enough. Ps I passed the driving test at the end of the three days- when I say passed I meant destroyed it, they are THAT GOOD!!
I learnt to drive with Mark Large, and found him helpful, patient and friendly. We got on really well, and it was like driving with a good friend in the passenger seat! It was around 8 years since I last drove a car and I found the whole experience at lot more rewarding than my previous instructor. As a resident of King's Lynn I didn't get to experience the accommodation. Thanks for helping me pass my driving test!
I was a bit hesitant before booking an Intensive course as I'd heard a lot of 'horror stories' about companies bundling pupils together in cars instead of one to one tuition, others not actually booking a test e.t.c After trawling several sites I settled on Academy as it came across as being a bit different from the others in being genuine; not making unrealistic claims or promises.
I also liked the look of King's Lynn and the accommodation on offer.
I had sat a test 8 months before but hadn't been behind the wheel since due to working abroad. I chose the 15 hour residential option. In hindsight, due to my break in driving, I would have probably benefited from an extra few hours to perfect my driving, gain confidence and familiarise myself with the area.
I hadn't much idea what to expect when I arrived at the Train Station on Wednesday morning but any concerns I had were quickly quashed on meeting the lovely Simon and his very 'hi-tech' Ford Focus! I read a comment on the testimonials before booking the course where somebody had said they weren’t just ‘instructed’ but ‘taught’ to drive, that now makes complete sense to me. Although I had a reasonable grasp of driving from before, my knowledge ‘theory’ wise was pretty below par. Simon managed to bring the theory and practical side of driving together and whether I had passed or failed I would have been a better driver for taking the course. I’m pleased to say I did pass and felt a lot more confident during the test this time round, again a reflection of the fantastic tuition I received. Many thanks.
I had been trying to pass my test for 16 years and was finally successful with Simon at Academy. The instruction was the best I had ever had and he was my 6th instructor!! Thank you x
Learning to drive with Academy was literally one of the most fun things I've done this year. For the week I was there it felt more like a holiday: King's Lynn is a lovely place to stay and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, and the hosting at my B&B was flawless. I was incredibly lucky to have Simon as my instructor... his enthusiasm, sense of humour and patience made me instantly relaxed so that by the end of the week I really enjoyed driving and was sorry to be leaving! I hope to come back to do my pass plus in the future, and to anyone considering learning with Academy, I would say it is well worth the money - highly recommended!
I have had 3 instructors since doing intensive courses with Simon and I have to say that he is the best instructor by far, his attention to detail, commitment, enthusiasm and general care for his pupils is simply superb. Unfortunately I live too far away to continue lessons but his solid teaching skills have set me on the right track and given me the confidence to continue. Thank you.
I am 60yrs of age and due to family circumstances I had to learn to drive. So after 3yrs of 'poodling' about Berkshire with unmotivated 'so-called' Driving Instructors ( not to mention the 6 failed tests!) My family encouraged me to do an intensive course as a last chance. Academy of Kings Lynn was chosen and the difference in tutorship with Academy was incredible and exceptional - I really cannot rate it highly enough.
Simon was my Instructor and from the first day I actually felt that I was finally being taught properly ( right down to the homework each night!) Simon was courteous, knowledgeable, banished my nerves and never gave up on me. If I didn't get something right he made me do it again and again and AGAIN! until I did get it right! For the first time I had confidence.
I did two intensive courses and PASSED!!! I recommend Academy tutorship to all ( young & OLD!) For the exceptionally high standard of teaching and accommodation it is not expensive - well worth it! I urge all of you that are reading this and wondering 'Shall I do it with Academy? The answer is YES! and do it now! A very BIG THANK YOU to Simon & Peter from Jean Hayes and family. You both made my dream a reality.
Before arriving in Kings Lynn for my 25 intensive course I had taken some driving lessons but my confidence had been really knocked by a previous teacher. I was met by Pete at the station and within half an hour of driving with him I felt like a different person. Pete is a brilliant teacher and a really nice guy. You can ask him anything or make any silly mistake and he understands and explains everything clearly.
It is a really intensive week and you have to give it everything because some days you will be tired. I wish I'd done this course years ago because it was the best thing I ever did. I passed my test first time and was over the moon! Thank you Pete, you're a star!
I first did a full weeks intensive course with academy and had Pete as my instructor who was a brilliant guy anything unsure of he would tell you and brilliant teaching, learnt more in 2 days than I did in 10 or so lessons locally unfortunately on the day I didn't pass my test but I went back for the 2nd and 3rd and 4th time it was down to my confidence really which is why it took the 4th and most recent attempt to pass but I learnt so much more and things I was unsure of were ironed out and managed to relax and really enjoyed my test (1/10/10) which I passed and the credit really goes to Pete and team for it without those guys id still be at square one, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED will also recommend them to any one I know BRILLIANT is all I can say...so what are you waiting for.....??!
Just wanted to leave a comment & say a huge thank you to peter he is a legend. He is a 1st class teacher & a joy to be around I did the 18 hrs course with him & I never once felt stupid when I made a mistake, constantly reassured me I could do it & he was right I passed yesterday morning with only 4 minors & I know I could not have done that without him.
People will say driving courses r a waste of time & money but they are so wrong even if I had of failed it was worth every penny just for the confidence he gave me & what he taught me in such a short time & I'd not had a lesson in 2 yrs. I'd recommend Peter & Academy drive to anyone, u wont regret it. Also the accommodation I stayed in was welcoming & above what I expected & it was all sorted for me very quickly & easily. So thanks again Peter......LEGEND!! x
At age 39 I thought I was too old to learn to drive but decided to take the plunge and go with an intensive course with Academy. Having never driven at all before I was shocked how quickly I was driving around thanks to Pete’s excellent tuition. The diesel car was clean, modern and easy to control. Pete was always calm, patient and open ideas on what you feel you need to work on. King’s Lynn is a great place to learn due to varied driving environments and local drivers are quite chilled and do not beep you if you stall at the lights! You constantly cover the test routes, manoeuvres and practice parking in the test centre so all seems familiar on the actual test. Driving for 5 or 6 hours a day is tiring and not easy by any means so you need to be determined but having passed the result is well worth it. It took me three attempts to pass but this was due to my nerves making me make a silly mistake on each test. On my third try I listened to hypnotherapy tapes for 2 weeks beforehand and this helped me control my nerves and pass with only 2 minors.
The B&B had good facilities, was friendly, spotlessly clean and did a superb full English breakfast. King’s Lynn has all the shops, eateries and bars you could wish for – it’s a lovely part of the world.
Thanks again to Pete for all his help and support. Being able to drive is a truly life enhancing experience.
Very professional but also not too timetabled. I was able to say what I thought I needed practice on as well as take advice. I had lots of practice on the test routes so when Friday came round I was ready for my test. The weeks intensive course was very tiring but it was well worth the effort and I passed first time.
Thanks for the help Pete.
Hi
I would like to give a big thank you to Simon who have pushed me in to believing that I could be a driver. After many failures and just not being able to pass, the academy was my final hope as everything else really didn't work. I was too nerves even on the test day but doing the intensive course help me focus better. Although I have been driving for a long time I still doubted myself and disbelieved of ever driving. By starting fresh in another location and new driver instructor enabled me to forget about the past and Simon really helped by doing mock test and making me ready and confident to do the test even at the last minute. The bed and breakfast accommodation was great with some helpful staff. No diner included but local shopping area and cafes around. To be honest its a nice change to go outside and enjoy the view. The lunch diner were Simon always brought me was more or less my diner.
The course is intense and you do get tired afterwards, but its all worth it. I still cant believe I finally have the blue paper and am now looking forward to learning and driving on my own.
Thanks you so much x susanna
It's been a while since I passed my test with Academy but have just seen this review function. Glad to have a chance to say thanks again and recommend them to anyone, young or old. It's been a great investment and excellent value hour for hour, because you keep improving with no gaps to forget stuff between lessons. I was not confident and had failed once after a year of weekly lessons but Simon was massively patient and I passed after five days. The beautiful countryside and good accommodation also calmed the nerves. I now drive all the time for work - even tractors! So thanks guys.
Having previously had some lessons from a dodgy BSM instructor when I lived in Brixton I never really got to enjoy driving, but it's certainly a different experience in King's Lynn. You get to experience different types of road (I'd never driven over 30mph before!), much less traffic and so long as you can focus your attention for a week you will stand a very good chance of passing first time, as I did. The instructors will take you out round the many test routes in the area and prepare you for your test from day one. As another reviewer said, 5-6 hours driving a day is not easy, and you need to do your homework if you are serious about passing, but it's value for money and certainly better than endless weekly lessons.
Dear Peter,
Many, many thanks for organizing such a brilliant course and as brilliant driving instructor as Simon.
I really enjoyed my lessons (well most of the time :-) ) and in Simon, I had an excellent instructor, who was a fantastic teacher, funny, really easy to get on with and all round "good egg!" -- I had the 40 hour course which I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND as it gave Simon the time to teach the routines and then me the time to go over and over them giving me the very best chance of passing.
It was a magical feeling when the test finished and the Examiner said "Congratulations you've Passed" -- Simon patted my on the shoulder, and I thought I've done it! -- I can drive, something I never thought I could do.
So for all those like me getting on a bit - 49yrs in my case, or those who keep putting off starting lessons - Try an Intensive course with Academy Driving School, it's brilliant the best thing I have ever done !!
Many thanks again
Martin
I would like to thank Mark for helping me to succeed in my driving test, which I passed with flying colours, I still cannot believe the fact that I passed without even a minor mistake. If you are planning to take a residential driving course in King’s Lynn, Mark MUST be your first choice I couldn't have asked for a better driving instructor and I unhesitatingly recommend him. In my opinion, Mark is not only a driving instructor but a driving teacher.
He is not only there just to say: follow the road ahead, turn right or left. Just like a good teacher cares about his pupils, so does he. Mark is very motivational, friendly, approachable and HONEST. When you make a mistake, he will say to you, move on… do not let this mistake put you down. And most importantly he makes sure that he goes over and over again to the same road where you made the mistake in order to find out what the pitfalls are until you feel confident with that particular road. Another excellent aspect of Mark is that he does not rest until he has taken you to every test road and he is constantly keeping record of the things you have practised in order to identify your strengths and weaknesses in your driving, just like a good teacher does!
He genuinely praises you when you know you are doing things right and does not shout at you when something goes wrong. His memorable praising expression is “CREDIT TO YOU” , “You managed that meeting situation very well, your manoeuvres are first class”; all this makes you feel confident and above all makes you have faith in your own ability as a learner driver. Whilst many driving schools are just interested in getting your money, this one really wants you to pass and so focuses on you achieving this as quickly and professionally as possible using only the routes that you will need to know for the test.
I stayed in a very picturesque village outside King’s Lynn and the accommodation was first class. Very spacious and cosy room with en suite bathroom, a nice kitchen, digital television with free view channels. Breakfast was fantastic.
Having never driven before I was surprised after 10 minutes from being collected at the station, I was behind the wheel driving! Their are some tricky roads in Kings Lynn, So I reckon if you can drive the roads around Kings Lynn you can drive anywhere. I was really unsure about passing the test, But Simon (the Instructor) had been doing mock runs the day before, so I treated the real test as 'just another run' Can't believe I passed first time :-) & Simon did not pull too much of his hair out that week.
Accommodation was nice & staffs were very pleasant, only gripe was they did not do evening meals so you make your own arrangements, but theirs plenty of restaurants within walking distance Did the Pass plus a few weeks later, really glad I did that, It's worth it just for the motorway training alone, reckon me & Simon covered about 200 miles that day in 33deg heat (just as well he had air con in his car). The whole course was not as easy as I thought it was going to be, driving for 5-6 hours a day can be tiring, but I am still glad I did it rather than have hourly lessons. To sum up, highly recommended.
What can I say about academy driving school, FANTASTIC!!!! MY instructor Mervyn met me promptly at Kings Lynn station and from the moment I got in the car he made me feel comfortable and at ease. He was very friendly and an exceptional driving instructor. I took a 20 hour driving course and it was fantastic value for money. Before my test I was extremely nervous but as soon as I got in the car Mervyn calmed me down within 30 seconds and I passed with just 3 minors :-) I would highly recommend Academy driving school to anyone who has the money to do it. 10 out of 10.
Thanks guys
Arrived at Kings Lynn station Peter was there to collect me. From the time I got in the car he made me feel welcome and comfortable. He guided me through what I needed to do to be safe and confident. I had a 12 hour course and would recommend it to anyone who is a confident driver. The accommodation was spot on very clean and the people were very nice. I believe that if chose another driving school I would not have passed my test.
cheers ACADEMY
I'm delighted to have passed my test yesterday with an Academy course. The whole experience was both professional and friendly. Special thanks and praise for my instructor, Mark, for his superb teaching and also his lovely relaxing accommodation.
Before I took this course I had had two previous instructors; my instructor at Academy, Pete Brason, was by far the best. I also had the opportunity to sit a mock test with a second instructor, Simon, who was also extremely good and gave constructive feedback.
I was unlucky and didn't pass the test at the end of my course. However, Pete was confident in my driving ability and quickly arranged some more practise with him and another test, which I passed.
The customer service before and after was also exemplary. Highly recommended! I will be returning to do Pass Plus.
5 stars all round. Professional, friendly, courteous, encouraging. Straight up brilliant! Pete is a wonderful teacher and an equally nice person. No nonsense, to the point and full of good ways to "tweak" anything I needed to improve on after 6 years of bad driving habits I picked up driving in Asia. Failed twice in the U.K before, but passed first time after 20 hours of Pete's expertise. Sorry I couldn't give you a clean sheet though Mr. Brason :P
I hated my driving lessons which I'd had in London and Canterbury before this course, and was dreading it, especially as it was instead of going and lying on a beach for a week, but I actually had a great time. Pete was really good and helpful, never made me feel stressed out about driving and hugely encouraging. The B&B was nice and King's Lynn is a lovely place. I passed first time which was absolutely brilliant, but even if I hadn't I'd still be recommending this course to all my friends and family.
There is quite simply no other way to learn to drive. Instructors, accommodation, location, the price all perfect. I was lost for words when I passed. Pete is an amazing person and is there for you every step of the way. I was so confident in his teaching that I picked a car to buy on the way home, which, thanks to the Academy, I did!
What can I say about Academy, absolutely amazing, could not have passed my test without the help of Ken and Pete, every step of the way they were encouraging, supportive and I can not thank them enough!!
Pete is a superstar! I booked this course because I was desperate to finally pass my test (I had already failed 4 times). And not only did I pass but I also had a really enjoyable week - lovely B+B and great company. Pete is a great teacher, my other instructors had really put me on edge but Pete's teaching style puts you at ease and Kings Lynn is an ideal place to learn in my opinion - all the features of a city but with friendly people and not too much traffic!
I took the 20hr course and would absolutely recommend it to anyone, worth every penny!
First off I just want to say a big thank you to Ken my instructor I highly recommend him to anyone wanting to drive, he puts you at ease straight away and is very patient. all in all I would give the Academy Driving School a 10 out of 10. It was very easy to book, Pete was very polite when booking and answered all my questions, all in all I really enjoyed my time with the academy. I will definitely come back and do the pass plus with Academy, and I will send any friends or family wanting to learn to drive your way.
I had two courses with Simon who was an excellent instructor and improved my driving confidence. He was extremely patient and taught me everything I needed to know. I would recommend Academy Driving School and Simon's teaching to anyone. Thank you!
Had the absolute joy of being taught by Ken, patient, fantastic teacher, would recommend to anyone
After having a few lessons in the past over the past couple of years, my level of driving was very much up and down. I pondered on an Intensive course for a while and finally plucked up the courage to go for it (a week before I was due to leave the country).
I was unsure about my ability and booked the 40hr course. I was taught by Pete and he was a great person to learn with. He is very accommodating, patient, and is really easy to get on with.
Intensive really worked for me as I got to know Pete and that certainly helped me with my driving. I couldn't have done it without this course.
The booking process was simple and there was no problems with test booking and being ready.
Thanks again Pete.
I was lucky enough to be taught by Pete Brason: a legend and pleasure to meet. Always up for banter, he puts you at ease; patient and never harsh: however daft the mistakes you make or questions you ask.
Kings Lynn itself is great for those, like me, who are intimidated by learning in London, but it has all the features of a big city so you will still get excellent driving experience. Intensive driving really worked for me: you get to know the instructor, and they get to know you and your exact driving capabilities and learning needs.
Finally, the initial booking process was slick and Academy welcome back those who have to re-take the test and it was here the customer service far> surpassed expectations: very efficient at getting lessons and tests booked in, despite having to coordinate other students and instructors, and when I had personal commitments he would quickly come back with alternative dates. Great if you are worried about a Theory Test certificate due to expire.
Pete was brilliant really easy to get along with and didn't get grumpy when things went wrong. All I can say is I passed first time and that's all that matters so a big thanks Pete!
I was very worried when I booked the course, not because of this company as booking was easy, but after I had booked I then heard that these courses are not very good!
As soon as I met my instructor it was a different story, I was meet exactly as arranged and was immediately put at ease. We went off to a very quiet area where I was allowed to get used to the car (it was perfect for learning to drive) then I was corrected on the mistakes I was making. With my previous instructor this was destructive but with this company it was always constructive and my confidence just grew and grew!
If I had failed I would still have recommended this company but I passed with ease and cannot understand why I had heard that intensive courses are not very good, I can only assume that they did not go to this company.
My thanks to all connected with Academy and will be sending my friends there very soon.
Despite Pete's 'man flu' he taught me well and got me to pass my test! The B&B was really nice and I enjoyed the course. Thanks Pete!
Not only did I learn to drive and pass my test I also enjoyed learning! Thank you Pete and many thanks to Mark my instructor I highly recommend you to anyone wanting to drive.
Very pleased with the course, would highly recommend to anyone- and will do so!!!! The course and accommodation were both of excellent standard, the instructors were fantastic! Thanks for a great experience, it has really built my confidence in driving! Only fault- I enjoyed it so much I didn't want it to end!!!
My driving instructor (Mark) was friendly, helpful and patient. The whole experience was very pleasant and since I passed my test, having struggled in the past, I was very satisfied with the outcome. I had failed five automatic tests and was delighted to pass my first manual test. I would recommend this for people who are finding it difficult to pass their test in London or another chaotic area, or for people who forget some of what they learn between weekly or twice-weekly lessons. I think it is much better value for money than taking weekly lessons. I really liked the staff at the accommodation. They were very helpful and provided excellent breakfasts.
I had a great time - learnt a lot and it got me through my test with no problem. great accommodation and a great instructor. definitely worth the money!
For 10 driving hours with Simon, I learned a lot more then 100 driving hours spent in London...! Thanks for your effort, patience and kindness
I had a wonderful time learning with Academy Driving School. Passed my test first time but only with the help of fantastic instructors. Many thanks and will stay in touch!
Thanks peter for getting me through my test you were very professional but at the same time you made the driving enjoyable I would recommend any body to academy driving school thanks again Brian.
As a last resort and a four year gap after failing my last attempt at passing my driving test, I decided to book an intensive course. As there were so few in Sussex and Kings Lynn seemed such a popular place for learners I thought a week away (25 tuition hours) would be the best way to knuckle down and focus!
Pete at The Academy organised my B+B accommodation and my instructor, they picked my up from the station and dropped me back at the end of the 5 days.
My instructor Mark was lovely and had a very patient and understanding nature that encouraged me and bought out the best in me. Dominique who ran the B+B could not have been more supportive and welcoming!
All in all I give The Academy an all round 10 out of 10 as the whole service was fab and I'm not just saying that because I passed!!
Having just failed a test approximately one month beforehand, confidence was low and this course was just what I needed to get the intensity needed to prepare me for another test. I chose a three day residential course in a lovely town, Kings Lynn. On the first day I was collected from the station which was a nice touch considering I wasn't familiar with the area. The course started almost straight away, with a brief look around the town and straight into the lessons.
Although I am, was, a nervous driver Pete made me feel very welcome and put me at ease. During my three days I was given nothing but encouragement and learnt some new driving skills, which I was very grateful for. The accommodation provided was lovely and welcoming. On the day of the test, again full of nerves I was rest assured that I was able to pass the test and given full support from everyone involved. I would like to thank everyone for all the help, advice and support during my stay.
I highly recommend this service and congratulate Pete on his business. Finally I passed which was the icing on the cake. Thanks guys.
I AM SO EXCITED!!!
I will like to take this opportunity to thank Simon for his patience.
I've passed my driving test! still cannot believe it! I must be dreaming!
After trying so hard for so long, driving schools with impatient drivers I finally found a driving school that understood my needs.
Thank you so much Booking Academy!
I am so pleased that I found you!
Pete was a great teacher, passed first time and would highly recommend to any one, I had done some previous lessons 2 years ago and just couldn't pass my test. As I work abroad it was great to do an intense course and finally get it out the way. The BnB was lovely and the staff were really kind. I hope to do my pass plus next time I have some time off.
I very much enjoyed the course and all of the arrangements made for me were of a very high standard and this undoubtedly helped me to relax and concentrate on the driving would recommend it for anyone who wants to pass quickly. The instructors are very helpful and definitely do everything possible to get you to and through your test.
I learned to drive with Pete on a 3 day course and then a couple of two day courses for which he found time to fit me in at short notice. I always had a good time on my courses, Pete is incredibly calm and understanding and made learning to drive fun. The car was brand new and the perfect car for a learner driver. The accommodation that Pete uses also deserves a 5 star rating. I would recommend Academy to anyone looking to learn to drive and looking for a good experience in doing so.
I learnt to drive with Pete doing a 35hour intensive course. The quality of teaching was brilliant, I was made to feel calm, given confidence and most importantly learnt to drive to a good standard, and I passed my test! The car was brand new and was cleaned before every lesson, this didn't make much difference to my driving but shows the care which the Academy Driving School take. Being from London I was new to Kings Lynn, however was soon made to feel at home in the excellent accommodation provided. Overall I haven't a bad word to say, and would recommend this company to all.
Thank you so much for the weeks course.
I'm glad it got sorted and I passed. Only 2 minors.... so happy!
Simon has been a great instructor, best I have had! and John was a funny examiner... he was lovely too, didn't get nervous at all. Finally Dominic was a lovely host, she made me feel very welcome :)
I will hopefully come back and do the pass plus when Simon is back.
Definitely if I have any friends or family wanting to learn, I will send them to you!
Choosing this driving school was the best choice I could have made, I wasn’t sure about doing an intensive course at first but Pete from Academy driving school made it so easy and all worth it. Driving is a skill and Pete was able to teach it to me in a very professional manner as well as being very approachable and friendly. I have and will recommend this driving School to anyone serious about passing their Driving test.
I had a 30hr course with Academy Driving School. After picking me up at the train station (they also drop you off after your course) they took me to my accommodation for 6 days, which was first class. The course itself was fantastic, splitting 5 hr days into 2 portions with an hour lunch, followed by my test at the end of the course. The teaching is excellent, one of the first things my instructor told me was that driving was fun, it is, as was the course. Academy insure your ready for your test and make you feel your ready too. I'm glad I chose to do a Residential Intensive Course and I'm glad I chose Academy. First Class.
Hi Pete,
I just want to say thanks, and give you my feedback:
I think that me passing my test was almost entirely due to the superb coaching by you guys. Simon pointed out little mistakes and bad practices that would have caused my not to get through the test before, but no other instructor managed to highlight and correct, and I had been to no less than 4 instructors over the past few attempts. Simon and you pretty much identified every possible mistake I would make – things I never realized before, and being able to cover all this in 48 hours is testament to your outstanding skill as instructors.
Also, I have noted the psychological approach towards exam preparation was very, very helpful. Simon focused on getting me doing mock test after mock test, 4 in a row on the Sunday, which although left me exhausted was exactly what was needed. I can drive, but just couldn’t get through the test without making silly mistakes, and the mock tests prepared me both technically and psychologically for this. If only all driving instructors were as thorough, intuitive, and observant as you guys, the DVLA would seriously need to consider raising the test standards, as too many people would be passing.
Honestly, I do not give compliments easily, but you guys were truly outstanding, a cut above the rest.
Rgds
